Frequently asked questions for Managed filings:
- If you are using book-keeping software, you can download a Income statement/profit and loss statement and Balance sheet for the period
- An excel spreadsheet with income and expenses
- Bank statements for your full accounting period.
If you have already informed HMRC that your company is dormant, then we will only have to complete your Abridged accounts and submit to Companies House. On the other hand, if you have not yet informed HMRC that your company is dormant, then we may have to submit a CT600 (Corporation tax return) for a dormant company.
You will need to provide your company’s:
a) UTR number – 10 digits number, which can be found on any correspondence from HMRC
b) HMRC government gateway credentials – User ID and Password (Please ensure you have activated corporation tax service).
c) Companies House Authentication Code
If your company has to file for its first accounting period and you have not activated the corporation tax service, then you should request an activation code. Please click on ‘Add a tax to your account’ at the top of your screen and request a corporation tax service activation code. This can take 7 to 10 days by post.
A CT600 is the tax return form that is require by HMRC, for every active company. It is used to calculate any tax due. It is supported by computations and a set of accounts. These are all included in your managed filing.
You can send the supporting documents via email or upload within our software.
Once you provide your company’s information one of our accounts specialists will begin working on your filings; if they require further information they will be in contact with you. You will be sent your accounts and tax return to review the documents before submitting to HMRC and Companies House. We will also provide you with an explanation of our work.
We will only submit, once we get your seal of approval! Once your accounts are submitted, you will receive an email from us confirming that they have been successfully received by HMRC and Companies House. Your abridged accounts will also be seen on the public register at Companies House.
A micro company is a company that fulfils any two of the following:
- Annual turnover of £1 million or less
- Balance sheet total is £500,000 or less
- Average number of employees must not be more than 10.
A small company is a company that fulfils any of two of the following:
- Not be more than £15 million
- Balance sheet total is not more than £7.5 million.
- Average number of employees must not be more than 50.
You can check this information on Companies House to see the period you need to file for. Usually, HMRC and Companies House dates align, however you may have received notice to file corporation tax return to HMRC with the expected dates.
If this is your first year, it is likely that you may have an extended period. HMRC do not allow tax returns to cover periods longer than 12 months – you will have to submit 2 CT600’s in order to reflect this.
For instance, if you incorporated on 24-March-2021, Companies House will extend your period to the end of the month, therefore to 31-March-2022.
For HMRC the first CT600 will be for the period 24-March-2021 to 23-March-2022 and the second CT600 will be for 24-March-2022 to 31-March-2022.
You can do this by going into your managed filing area and clicking the documents. Once you receive an email confirming submission, you can download filing artifacts for your record, once you have logged in.
In the company’s first accounting period, you have 21 months after the end of your accounting period to file to Companies house. With HMRC, you have 12 months after the end of your accounting period to file your tax returns, but if you have any tax due, this is due 9 months and 1 day after the end of your accounting period.
